Thomas Adewumi University Holds 6th Matriculation Ceremony, Inducts 967 Undergraduates and First Set of Postgraduate Student

Thomas Adewumi University hosted its 6th Matriculation Ceremony, formally admitting 967 undergraduate students and 29 postgraduate students into the institution for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The ceremony marked a historic milestone in the university’s development, as it featured the first matriculation of postgraduate students, alongside the pioneer sets of MBBS students and Radiography and Radiation Science students.

The event, held earlier today, attracted dignitaries including the Founder and Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi; Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Prof. Victor Olanrewaju; Member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. J. T. Oderinde; the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo; the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye, Principal officers, Deans, members of Senate, parents, guardians, and the newly admitted students.

Declaration and Oath-Taking

The matriculation programme commenced with the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, formally declaring the ceremony open. Thereafter, the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye, administered the matriculation oath to both undergraduate and postgraduate students, during which they pledged to abide by the rules and regulations of the university.

Vice-Chancellor’s Address

Delivering her matriculation address, Prof. Oladipo welcomed guests and congratulated the newly admitted students, describing the occasion as the beginning of a transformative journey, “Today, we celebrate the beginning of an exciting and transformative journey for the new undergraduate and postgraduate students. This ceremony marks a significant milestone in their lives as they embark on a path of academic pursuit, personal growth, and lifelong learning,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor highlighted the university’s rapid achievements within its first five years, noting that TAU is currently ranked 4th among universities in Kwara State, 6th among Nigeria’s 168 private universities, and 45th among 312 universities nationwide.

She emphasized the institution’s commitment to sustainability, innovation, and global partnerships, stating that the university operates a solar-powered campus and produces up to 75 percent of its food through sustainable agriculture.

Prof. Oladipo further outlined several institutional milestones, including:

  • Establishment of a College of Medicine and School of Postgraduate Studies with 29 programmes

  • A 100% NUC accreditation success rate

  • Partnerships with global institutions such as MIT, IBM, Harvard, Stanford, Cornell, UC Berkeley, Microsoft, Google, and others through edX and Coursera initiatives

  • Over $200,000 in grants secured from Google

  • Erasmus+ mobility funding enabling academic exchanges with Poland’s Lodz University of Technology

  • Student success at the AFRETEC-UNILAG Innovation-in-Health Challenge, winning ₦1.5 million and placing second among 102 teams nationwide.

Addressing the matriculating students, she emphasized that a TAU degree represents competence beyond academics, highlighting the university’s dual-certification model which combines degree programmes with internationally recognized micro-credentials, multilingual proficiency, entrepreneurship training, and mandatory community service.

She also reiterated the institution’s zero tolerance for examination malpractice, indecent conduct, and bullying, urging students to uphold excellence and discipline throughout their academic journey.

Goodwill Messages and Founder’s Remarks

In his goodwill message, the Pro-Chancellor, Prof. Victor Olanrewaju, officially welcomed the new students into the university community, offered prayers for their success, and appreciated parents and guardians for entrusting their wards to the institution.

Delivering his remarks, the Founder and Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, advised students on the importance of time management, discipline, and focus. He encouraged them to avoid social distractions, embrace opportunities for personal development, and acquire relevant skills that would prepare them for future success.

He reassured stakeholders of the university’s commitment to providing a secure and enabling learning environment and urged students to remain determined and willing to pay the price required for excellence. The Chancellor also commended staff members for their dedication and contributions to the university’s growth.

Vote of Thanks

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye, who expressed appreciation to the university management, staff, parents, and guests for their support and participation.

The 6th Matriculation Ceremony reaffirmed Thomas Adewumi University’s commitment to academic excellence, global relevance, and holistic student development, as Team Fluorite officially began their academic journey within the institution.
