The Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences (FCAS) at Thomas Adewumi University is dedicated to advancing excellence in education, research, and community service across diverse fields within computing and the applied sciences. Guided by a mission to foster academic innovation and growth, FCAS provides a robust academic experience through its four departments. The Department of Biological Sciences, led by Dr. O. Farounbi, offers programs in Biochemistry and Microbiology. The Department of Chemical Sciences, under the leadership of Dr. A. A. Ajibola, provides a program in Chemistry. The Department of Mathematical and Computing Science, coordinated by Mr. O. J. Olabode, offers degrees in Computer Science, Software Engineering, and Mathematics. Finally, the Department of Physics, headed by Dr. A. A. Ayeni, delivers a program in Physics with Electronics.
Since its inception, the Faculty has remained committed to equipping students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for success in various scientific and technical careers. This commitment is reflected in its dynamic and student-centered academic environment.
FCAS has been fortunate to have visionary leaders who have steered its growth. Under the leadership of the pioneer dean, Prof. E.O. Odebunmi (2021–2022), and the current Acting Dean, Dr. E.K. Olatunji, the Faculty has achieved significant milestones. These achievements include maintaining high academic standards through timely submission of semester results for Senate approval and enhancing its academic offerings with a 30% customized addition to the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS). This curriculum enhancement aligns the Faculty’s programs with industry needs, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for the challenges of the modern workforce.
Accreditation has also been a major success story for FCAS, with programs in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Microbiology, and Biochemistry receiving full accreditation. These accreditations affirm the Faculty’s commitment to providing education that meets national and international standards.
The Faculty takes pride in the accomplishments of its staff and students. Two faculty members were recognized by the university management for their exceptional contributions, while others achieved significant academic milestones, including the completion of Ph.D. degrees in Physics (2023) and Biochemistry (2024). Faculty members have also demonstrated a strong commitment to research, contributing over 69 publications across various disciplines between 2021 and 2024.
FCAS has also made meaningful strides in community engagement and societal impact. In 2024, the Faculty celebrated the milestone of its first graduating class in Computer Science, whose students participated in a community service initiative at Comprehensive High School Oko. This initiative reflects FCAS’s dedication to fostering a sense of social responsibility among its graduates.
Through a combination of academic excellence, research innovation, and community service, the Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences continues to play a pivotal role in the mission of Thomas Adewumi University. With its strong leadership, dedicated faculty, and committed students, FCAS remains at the forefront of driving transformative education and societal impact.
