General Studies Unit (GST)

The General Studies Unit (GST) at Thomas Adewumi University is a cornerstone of the institution’s academic framework, dedicated to the holistic development of students through a comprehensive interdisciplinary curriculum. Led by Mr. Adelokun Adetunji Oluwapelum, the Unit focuses on equipping students with essential skills across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The curriculum fosters critical thinking, effective communication, and cultural awareness, preparing students for successful careers and meaningful civic engagement.

The GST has introduced several key courses, including those in environmental studies and digital literacy, broadening the scope of its academic offerings. Faculty members actively contribute to research initiatives, enriching the academic environment and cultivating a culture of inquiry. The Unit has also forged industry partnerships, giving students practical, hands-on experience in real-world settings.

In line with TAU's vision, the GST has pioneered innovative programs aimed at preparing students for the modern workforce. Notable initiatives include an AI-driven educational program to enhance workforce readiness and a business incubation program that supports aspiring student entrepreneurs. Additionally, the Unit has actively engaged in community outreach, focusing on promoting literacy within the Oko community.
