Thomas Adewumi University Hosts Global Teachers Assembly Kwara Colloquium & Awards Grand Finale

Thomas Adewumi University has once again demonstrated its leadership in advancing educational excellence as it hosted the grand finale of the Kwara Teachers Colloquium and Award Ceremony, organized by the Global Teachers Assembly.

The landmark event, held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the University Auditorium marked the culmination of a four-day engagement that began virtually on March 23 via Zoom. Themed Empowered Educators: Innovation, Equity, and Lifelong Impact,” the colloquium convened educators, administrators, policymakers, and stakeholders from across Kwara State to deliberate on the future of teaching and learning.

The grand finale attracted distinguished personalities, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca O. Oladipo, who was represented by Mr. Ameh Musa, Deputy Director of CEDEL. The Royal Father of the Day, Oba Victor Oluwafemi Olawuyi, was ably represented by Dr. Omosola Olabode, Head of the Department of Mathematical and Computing Sciences at TAU, alongside members of the Oloko-in-Council.

Other notable attendees included the keynote speaker, Prof. Temitope Odetoye, award recipients, and respected education professionals from across the state.

In his welcome address, the Convener, Ambassador Nwankwo Emmanuel Borngreat, emphasized the critical role teachers play in shaping society. He noted that the Global Teachers Assembly, established in 2021, was born out of a vision to “rediscover and redesign the nation through education.”

He commended teachers as builders of the future and stressed the importance of continuous dialogue, innovation, and collaboration in addressing challenges within the education sector.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s address, Mr. Ameh Musa conveyed a powerful message underscoring the centrality of teachers to national development. She described teachers as “the builders of civilisation and the quiet architects of greatness,” noting that the theme of the colloquium serves as a call to action for empowering educators beyond traditional training.

Highlighting TAU’s commitment, she stated that the University is dedicated to raising educators who are not only practitioners but also researchers and innovators. She further emphasized the institution’s belief in the value of African identity in education, affirming that culture and heritage are powerful resources in knowledge creation.

The Vice-Chancellor also commended the Global Teachers Assembly for creating a platform that not only celebrates teachers but equips and challenges them for greater impact.

Taking the centre stage, Prof. Temitope Odetoye delivered an insightful keynote on "AI and Technology Integration for Achieving Excellence in Teaching and Learning.”

She explored the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence and technology in education, highlighting tools such as virtual assistants and intelligent learning systems. She emphasized that while technology enhances teaching through personalized learning, interactive engagement, and global access, it must be integrated responsibly.

Addressing challenges such as digital divide, infrastructure deficits, and teacher preparedness, she called for inclusive investments and continuous professional development. Quoting education expert George Couros, she noted: “Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational.”

The event featured breakout group discussions where participants, divided into four groups, engaged in critical conversations on improving teaching practices and school systems.

This was followed by a panel session titled “Teachers’ Welfare: A Panacea to a Sustainable Future,” moderated by Mrs. Oni Blessing, with panelists including Mr. Rahman Wasiu, Mrs. Grace Busari, Mr. Ameh Musa, and Mr. Olu Adewara. The session provided valuable insights into teacher welfare, motivation, and sustainability in education.

A major highlight of the event was the award ceremony, which recognized individuals for their exceptional contributions to education.

Among the honourees were:

  • Oba Victor Oluwafemi Olawuyi – Royal Icon of Continuous Learning
  • Prof. Francisca Oladipo – Global Collaboration in Education Award
  • Prof. Temitope Odetoye – Distinguished Keynote Speaker 

Several educators recognized across categories including leadership, teaching excellence, community impact, and innovation in education. The awardees were celebrated for their dedication to advancing the teaching profession and shaping future generations.

In a goodwill message delivered on his behalf, Oba Victor Oluwafemi Olawuyi emphasized the importance of continuous learning as the bedrock of societal progress. He commended educators for their resilience and dedication, urging them to embrace innovation while preserving values that strengthen community and cultural identity. He further encouraged stakeholders to invest in education as a lasting legacy for future generations.

The successful hosting of the Global Teachers Assembly at Thomas Adewumi University reinforces the institution’s growing reputation as a hub for academic innovation, research, and transformative dialogue. By providing a platform that brings together educators and thought leaders, TAU continues to position itself at the forefront of shaping the future of education in Nigeria and beyond.

As the curtains fell on the 2026 Kwara Teachers Colloquium and Award Ceremony, participants departed inspired, equipped, and united in a shared vision to empower educators and transform societies through knowledge, innovation, and lifelong learning
