Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) proudly celebrates Professor Ade Stephen Alabi, Head of Anatomy Department, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, on his prestigious induction as Fellow of the Anatomical Society of Nigeria (FASN). The recognition, conferred during the Society’s 2025 Annual Scientific International Conference, underscores his remarkable scholarly impact, mentorship, and leadership in advancing anatomical sciences and forensic anthropology in Nigeria.
A Scholar of Distinction and Dedication
Professor Alabi, a highly accomplished academic and researcher, currently serves as Professor of Anatomy at the University of Ilorin, where he also leads the Division of Physical and Forensic Anthropology. His career spans over two decades of excellence in teaching, research, and medical education. His induction as a Fellow reflects his sustained commitment to scholarship, innovation, and service in the anatomical sciences.
He holds multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. in Physical and Forensic Anthropology from the University of Port Harcourt, an M.Sc. in Anatomy, an MBBS degree, and a B.Sc in Anatomy from the University of Ilorin. His research explores forensic anthropology, medical genetics, and reproductive biology, fields in which his studies have contributed to national and international discourse through more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in reputable journals.
Leadership and Service to the Academic Community
Before his appointment as Head of Department, Anatomy at Thomas Adewumi University, Professor Alabi distinguished himself as Sub-Dean of Student Affairs and Sub-Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences at the University of Ilorin. He has served as External Examiner to several Nigerian universities, including Madonna University and Osun State University, and has headed numerous academic and ethics committees focused on curriculum development, mentorship, and postgraduate supervision.
He has represented Nigeria in international academic forums, including the Towards Unity for Health (TUFH) Conference in Australia, where he presented research on improving rural healthcare delivery. His active involvement in the Network of Schools for Towards Unity for Health (TUFH), Netherlands, underscores his dedication to global best practices in medical education.
Honoured Excellence in Anatomy
Professor Alabi’s election as a Fellow of the Anatomical Society of Nigeria (FASN) is a testament to his profound influence on anatomical education and his pioneering work in forensic anthropology, a discipline critical to medical and legal sciences in Africa. His distinction as both Overall Best Graduating Student in M.Sc. (2011) and Ph.D. (2017) Anatomy further attests to his exceptional academic prowess and relentless pursuit of excellence.
