In a significant milestone for medical education and healthcare advancement in Kwara South Senatorial District, Thomas Adewumi University has received formal approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Radiography and Radiation Science degree programmes.

The long-awaited approval follows a rigorous resource verification exercise conducted by the NUC in April 2025. The exercise, which is the first of its kind in the Kwara South region, was aimed at assessing the readiness of the University to launch high-impact medical programmes that align with national standards and global best practices.

The resource verification team undertook a comprehensive tour of the University's key academic and clinical facilities. These included the Gross Anatomy Laboratory, Medical Laboratories, Teaching Classrooms, University Library, and affiliated healthcare centers—Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital and Oko Medical Centre. The evaluation focused on the adequacy of physical infrastructure, availability of qualified academic and medical personnel, and institutional capacity to deliver quality medical education.

Receiving the official letter of approval on behalf of the University, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, expressed deep appreciation to the NUC for the trust reposed in the institution. She emphasized that the new programmes further validate TAU’s growing reputation as a center for academic excellence, innovation, and transformative learning.

The introduction of the MBBS and B. Radiography programmes positions Thomas Adewumi University as a trailblazer in medical education within the region, offering prospective students state-of-the-art learning environments and access to real-time clinical training.
