To strengthen collaboration and enhance road safety measures, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) RS 8.12 Omu-Aran Unit Command paid a courtesy visit to Thomas Adewumi University (TAU). The courtesy visit, which took place at the university's campus, marked a vital step toward building a strong partnership between the FRSC and the academic community.

The FRSC delegation, led by the newly appointed Unit Commander, Chief Road Commander (CRC) J. N. Ngwu, engaged in strategic discussions with TAU’s management on road safety education, training for university staff, and improved traffic management in the region.

Speaking at the event, CRC J. N. Ngwu highlighted FRSC's role as Nigeria's leading agency in road management and emphasized the need for collective efforts to reduce traffic crashes. “FRSC is committed to ensuring road safety and working with the university community will help in accomplishing this mission,” he stated, pledging the unit's support to TAU whenever needed.

The FRSC team also proposed initiatives to train the university staff on road safety precautions and discussed the potential deployment of road marshals on the TAU campus. The Unit Commander underlined the importance of creating a sustained partnership to promote safer road practices and shared the agency's commitment to offering solutions tailored to the university's needs.

In her response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, warmly welcomed the FRSC delegation and provided an overview of the university’s achievements and mission. “We are a young, private institution transforming challenges into opportunities, with a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Medicine, and Innovations,” she said, highlighting TAU’s position as the top-ranking university among those licensed in 2021.

Prof. Oladipo acknowledged the critical role of the FRSC in road safety and pledged the university's full support for collaborative efforts. She emphasized the importance of training programs for students and staff, stating, “This partnership will not only enhance safety on and off campus but also equip our students with knowledge beyond their academic curriculum.” She further underscored TAU's commitment to holistic education, noting that students graduate with IT certifications and entrepreneurial skills in addition to their degrees.

Prof. Oladipo highlighted the university’s achievements, noting its top-ranking status among institutions licensed in 2021 and its growing reputation in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Medicine. “TAU ranks as the 4th best university in Kwara State, 11th among private universities in Nigeria, and 49th nationwide. With the FRSC's support, we aim to safeguard our community further and sustain this upward trajectory, she stated

Following the discussions, the FRSC team toured the campus to assess infrastructure and identify areas for safety improvements. The visit concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to a sustainable collaboration aimed at promoting road safety awareness and compliance.

This engagement reinforces TAU’s dedication to fostering strategic partnerships that enhance the well-being of its community while supporting national road safety initiatives.
