Professor Victor Olarewaju has been appointed as the Pro-chancellor and the chairman of the Governing Council of Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) Oko, Kwara state. The appointment came through a confirmation letter signed by the Founder and Chancellor of the university, Dr. Johnson Adewumi (FNSE).

The chancellor, Engineer, J.B.O Adewumi expressed that the appointment of Prof. Olanrewaju, a professor of Geology, is based on his “scholarly achievements and extensive experience in University administration to provide leadership through the Governing Council”.

Professor Victor Olarewaju obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Geology in 1972 from the University of Ibadan and a Master’s degree in Geology in 1976 at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He went further to bag his Ph.D. in Geology in 1981 at the Imperial College of Science & Technology, University of London.

Professor Olarewaju retired as a Professor of Geology from Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife after meritorious research, teaching, and administrative services for 43 years. During his academic sojourn at OAU, Professor Olarewaju has held positions as Head of Department, Vice Dean of Faculty, Dean of Faculty for two terms, and also Chairman, Committee of Deans for two years.

The newly appointed Pro-Chancellor of TAU, Prof Victor is an international Scholar who has also worked as a professor in universities like the University of Ghana and University of Namibia, Southern Africa. In addition, he is a Fellow of Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), a Registered member of the Council of Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), and a Consultant Geologist to some companies in the construction, environmental, mining, exploration, and hydrogeological activities.
