Thomas Adewumi University continues its commitment to preparing its graduating class of 2024 with the tools for success in the real world through its Career Programme. Last week, the University hosted another insightful module series focusing on Career Coaching: Job Search Strategies & Interview Skills, led by Mr. Stephen Edache Paul, the University’s esteemed Webmaster II and Head of the Training and Strategy Unit.

Mr. Stephen, an accomplished professional with a diverse portfolio, shared his expertise in job search strategies and interview skills with the students. He began the session by introducing himself and sharing his career journey, offering the students valuable insights into his experiences from his formative school days to his current esteemed positions, including being the Director of Startup Grind Abuja and Lead Google Developer Group Lokoja, among others.

In his engaging lecture, he emphasized the importance of understanding different job search skills, and distinguishing between hot and cold search methods. Cold search, he explained, involves leveraging recommendations, family friends, and connections, while hot search relies on online job platforms.

Furthermore, Mr. Stephen provided practical guidance on interview preparations, stressing the significance of crafting a compelling social media profile, resume/CV, and cover letter. He also talked about answering mock interview questions and offered guidelines for writing an effective resume.

During the segment on interview skills, he highlighted that the interview is often the final step in securing a job and discussed strategies for success before, during, and after the interview. Students learned the importance of thorough research about the role and company beforehand, practicing answers to various interview questions, and presenting themselves professionally on the interview day. Mr. Stephen emphasized the significance of sending a thank-you message post-interview, reinforcing why the candidate is the ideal choice for the position.

Concluding his lecture, he addressed the importance of networking and shared insights on how to enhance one's network growth, underscoring its value in career advancement.

The Career Programme module series at Thomas Adewumi University continues to empower students with the essential skills and mindset for navigating the competitive job market. With expert guidance and comprehensive modules, the graduating class of 2024 is poised to embark on their professional journeys with confidence and competence, equipped to achieve remarkable success.
