Thomas Adewunmi University Sets the Pace for Medical Innovation in Kwara South

Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has taken a significant step in advancing healthcare education with the inauguration of the Planning and Implementation Committee (PIC) for its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and D. Pharm programmes. The event, held at the University's Senate Chamber, marks a crucial step in the University's ongoing efforts to contribute to healthcare education and innovation in Kwara State and beyond.

In her opening address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca O. Oladipo welcomed the committee members, emphasizing the significance of the day for the University community. "This is a pivotal moment in our journey," she stated, reflecting on the University's strategic growth in Medical Sciences since the establishment of its Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences in 2021. She underscored the importance of the committee's work, which will lay the foundation for these new programmes, and urged members to approach their tasks with diligence and foresight.

"The outcomes of your efforts will shape not only the future of medical education at Thomas Adewumi University but also contribute significantly to the broader healthcare landscape in Nigeria," Prof. Oladipo said.

Building on the Vice-Chancellor’s address, the Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his unwavering support, particularly in approving the upgrade of Omu-Aran General Hospital to serve as TAU's Teaching Hospital. He described the inauguration as a milestone that reflects TAU’s commitment to advancing healthcare and education in the region. "This initiative is more than an academic achievement; it is a testament to our dedication to improving the well-being of our community and the nation at large," he remarked.

The Chairman of the Planning and Implementation Committee, Professor Ayotunde B. Omotoso, expressed confidence in the committee's ability to deliver on its mandate. "We accept this responsibility with full commitment and will execute our duties to the highest standards. We believe our efforts will establish a new benchmark in healthcare education," he affirmed.

Other members of the Planning and Implementation Committee include notable personalities such as the former CMD of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Professor Sulyman Kuranga; the immediate past Provost of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila Orangun, Professor Aishat Gobir; Professor Samuel Agaja; Professor Oladimeji  Bolarinwa; Professor Feyi Adepoju; and several others from diverse medical and pharmaceutical disciplines, with additional attendance from members of the University Management, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Network, and other distinguished guests, all highlighting their strong support for TAU's ambitious vision in Medical and Pharmaceutical Education.
