Thomas Adewumi University has received commendation from the Kwara State Environmental Protection Agency (KWEPA) for its outstanding commitment to maintaining a sustainable, clean, and eco-friendly campus environment.

The commendation followed a comprehensive inspection visit by officials of KWEPA, carried out to assess the University’s environmental initiatives, management systems, and level of compliance with established environmental regulations.

During the inspection, the KWEPA team evaluated several critical areas of environmental management across the University, including waste management practices, water conservation strategies, maintenance of green spaces, and the overall environmental impact of campus activities. At the end of the exercise, the team expressed high satisfaction with the University’s approach to environmental sustainability and preservation.

Speaking on behalf of the inspection team, the General Manager of KWEPA, Honourable Jide Aina, commended the University management for its proactive and collaborative approach to environmental stewardship. He noted that the University’s innovative waste management systems, particularly its recycling initiatives and proper waste disposal methods, have significantly reduced the institution’s ecological footprint.

Honourable Aina also praised the University’s efficient water management practices, describing them as commendable and impactful, not only in preserving natural resources but also in serving as a model for the wider community. In addition, he highlighted the presence of well-maintained green areas and landscaped gardens across the campus as clear evidence of the University’s commitment to biodiversity, environmental balance, and the creation of a conducive learning environment.

In her response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, welcomed the KWEPA team on behalf of the University community and expressed gratitude for the recognition. She reaffirmed TAU’s strong commitment to environmental sustainability and compliance with global best practices. “At Thomas Adewumi University, we place a strong emphasis on full compliance with environmental sustainability standards. Our institutional focus aligns with supporting the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and we have deliberately developed programmes and initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and positive impact,” she stated.

The Vice-Chancellor further emphasized the role of environmental consciousness in education, noting that sustainability remains a core value of the University. “We firmly believe that environmental responsibility is an essential component of education. We are delighted that our efforts have been acknowledged by the Kwara State Ministry of Environment, and we remain committed to achieving even greater environmental excellence,” she added.

At Thomas Adewumi University, we remain firmly committed to environmental sustainability, responsible resource management, and practices that align with global standards. The University will continue to champion initiatives that promote a cleaner environment while contributing meaningfully to community development and sustainable growth.
