Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has marked a historic milestone with its 5th Matriculation Ceremony, officially welcoming 780 new students into its academic community; the highest number recorded since the university’s inception.

The landmark event, held at the University Auditorium on the East Campus, brought together matriculants, proud parents, university dignitaries, and special guests to celebrate what has become a symbol of the institution’s remarkable growth and rising profile as a centre of excellence in education and research.

Presiding over the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca O. Oladipo, described the event as a significant step in the academic journey of the new students, and a testament to TAU’s dynamic evolution and growing reputation “It gives me great joy to stand before you today on the auspicious occasion of the 5th Matriculation Ceremony of Thomas Adewumi University. Today, we formally welcome into our academic community a new cohort of 780 bright young men and women who have chosen to begin their higher education journey with us,” she said.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that the ceremony marked more than a formal induction, it was a commitment to uphold the university’s core values of discipline, diligence, integrity, and excellence. She urged the new students to embrace the opportunities ahead, engage actively in their academic pursuits, and take advantage of the institution’s serene environment, world-class facilities, and holistic education.

She also presented a detailed breakdown of the matriculating students by faculty and department, highlighting that the numbers reflect increasing confidence in TAU as a preferred destination for quality education. The 780 students are spread across the university’s seven faculties: Arts and Humanities, Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Computing and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Law, Management and Social Sciences, and Nursing Sciences.

One of the ceremonial highlights was the formal presentation of matriculants by the Deans of each Faculty, after which the students took the Matriculation Oath, administered by the University Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye. The oath represented a formal commitment to abide by university rules and to maintain exemplary conduct on and off campus.

In his goodwill message, the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Victor Olanrewaju, congratulated the new students and advised them to focus on their academic goals, remain disciplined, and make good use of their time. He urged them never to settle for mediocrity but to aim high and seek to know God as they embark on their journey.

Also delivering a goodwill message was Mr. Habib Maiyaki, Board Director of JAMB (Ilorin Office), who commended the university for its progress and encouraged the students to live responsibly, adhere to expectations, and strive for excellence.

The Founder/Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson B.O Adewumi, in his address, reiterated the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates. He stated that every student must fulfil community service hours, obtain at least two international IT certifications, and acquire a vocational skill before graduation. He encouraged the students to utilize their youthful years wisely and purposefully.

A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of "A Journey into Becoming", an anthology of poems written by 100-level students of the Department of Languages, Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The publication, described as a powerful expression of emerging student voices, delves into themes of identity, healing, truth, and transformation. The Head of Department, Mr. Adelokun Adetunji, read the preface before the book was officially launched by the Chancellor, alongside the Vice-Chancellor.

In her closing remarks, the Co-Founder, Dr. Mrs. Gloria Adewumi, expressed appreciation to all attendees, including parents, university staff, dignitaries, and special guests. She thanked them for gracing the occasion and for their continued support.

Notable attendees included Hon. Raheem Adedoyin, Former Commissioner for Information, Kwara State; JAMB officials, Friends of the University, academic and non-academic staff, and the traditional ruler of Oko-Irese, His Royal Highness, Oba Victor Oluwafemi Olawuyi, along with his Council of Chiefs.

The 5th Matriculation Ceremony stands as a defining moment in TAU’s journey; a testament to its unwavering commitment to academic excellence and student success.
