Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, Kwara State, through its Centre for Foreign Languages, successfully hosted its maiden Language Fair in celebration of the graduating Class of 2026 as students completed their functional fluency training in Arabic, Japanese, German, French, and Chinese.

The colourful event, held at the University Auditorium, brought together students, staff, and members of the University Management led by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca O. OLADIPO, to witness and celebrate a significant academic milestone, one of the first of its kind at Thomas Adewumi University.

Tagged “The World in a Hall,” the terminal project presentation by the Archeion Cohort (the graduating class), served as a vibrant celebration of languages, cultures, and global understanding through creativity and expression.

The event featured a rich display of language and culture through music, drama, live performances, and competitions. Students were grouped according to their chosen languages, (French, Japanese, German, Arabic, and Chinese), each team presented unique showcases reflecting the traditions, customs, dances, and cultural heritage of the countries they represented.

Audience members were treated to exciting performances, musical renditions, cultural exhibitions, language presentations, and interactive displays that highlighted friendship beyond borders and the beauty of cultural diversity. Each presentation reflected months of dedication, learning, and immersive engagement with foreign languages and cultures.

A significant highlight of the event was the presence of Associate Professor Muhammed J. MUSTAPHA of RUDN University, Russia. In his remarks, he commended the students for their impressive portrayals of the various languages and cultures. He further announced that the Russian language will be introduced for the next cohort of students, expanding the university’s foreign language offerings and strengthening global academic engagement.

Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca O. OLADIPO, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing globally competitive graduates through multilingual education. She noted that TAU remains intentional about equipping students with functional fluency in foreign languages, giving them an added advantage in an increasingly interconnected world.

“At Thomas Adewumi University, we are committed to ensuring our students are not only academically excellent but also globally prepared. Functional fluency in foreign languages positions our graduates to stand out among their peers and opens doors to international opportunities,” she said.

The maiden Language Fair reflects TAU’s continued drive towards innovation in education, cross-cultural exchange, and preparing students for leadership beyond national borders. The event concluded with applause and commendations for the graduating students, whose performances demonstrated not only linguistic competence but also confidence, creativity, and a deep appreciation for global cultures.

The Language Fair marks another landmark achievement for Thomas Adewumi University’s Centre for Foreign Languages and reinforces the institution’s vision of raising graduates equipped to thrive in a global society.
