TAU Inaugurates Committee for NMCN Accreditation of Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital for Clinical Training

Thomas Adewumi University, in collaboration with the Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital (TAUTH), has officially inaugurated a committee to drive the accreditation of the Teaching Hospital for clinical training by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).

The constitution of the committee underscores the University’s strategic commitment to advancing healthcare education and ensuring that its clinical training facilities meet national regulatory standards. The committee, comprising academic staff from the Faculty of Nursing Sciences and professionals from TAUTH, is tasked with facilitating the accreditation process of clinical training for the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.) programme.

The committee members are:

Chaired by Prof. Emenike O. Irakanulo, the committee includes seasoned professionals drawn from both the University and the Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital. The committee is mandated to serve as the primary liaison between TAU, TAUTH, and the NMCN, ensuring a seamless accreditation and inspection process, while positioning the hospital to meet all prescribed requirements for clinical training.

The committee was formally inaugurated by the Founder and Chancellor of the University, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Governing Council. In his address, the Chancellor described the initiative as a significant milestone in the University’s vision to transform the Omu-Aran General Hospital into a fully functional teaching hospital.

He expressed appreciation to members for their willingness to serve, noting that their role is pivotal in achieving a legacy project that will benefit the people of Kwara South and beyond. He also acknowledged the support of the Executive Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq CON, for his commitment to developmental initiatives in the region.

Highlighting the importance of the assignment, the Chancellor remarked that the task, though demanding, is essential to the realization of the University’s long-term vision. He assured the committee of Management’s full support and urged members to commence work promptly in line with the September 30, 2026 accreditation target.

Following the inauguration, prayers were offered for the success of the committee and the overall vision of the institution.

In his response, the Chairman of the committee, Prof. Emenike Irakanulo, expressed gratitude to the Chancellor for the confidence reposed in the team. He described the assignment as both an honour and a historic responsibility, assuring that the committee would work diligently to deliver on its mandate.

He further noted that the committee would immediately begin assessments of human resources and facility requirements, with a clear focus on laying a solid foundation for the successful accreditation of TAUTH as a centre for clinical training.

The inauguration marks another bold step by Thomas Adewumi University in strengthening its academic and healthcare delivery systems, as it continues to position itself as a centre of excellence in medical education and research.
