Thomas Adewumi University recently hosted the National Universities Commission (NUC) Resource Verification Team for the assessment of proposed academic programmes across three faculties of the University. The exercise is part of the University’s strategic effort to expand access to quality undergraduate education and strengthen its academic offerings.

The verification visit commenced with a formal welcome meeting, during which the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye warmly welcomed the NUC team and introduced members of the University Management present at the meeting. These included the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, the University Bursar, Mrs. Racheal Afolabi, the University Librarian, Mr. Tunde Oyedokun, as well as Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments.

The NUC team, made up of ten distinguished professionals, including seasoned professors and officials of the National Universities Commission, also introduced themselves. They explained that the purpose of their visit was to objectively assess the availability of resources for the proposed programmes submitted by the University.

The programmes presented for verification cut across the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, the Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences, and the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.

In her welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, expressed delight at receiving the NUC team to the TAU campus community. She described the University as “the light of the community,” noting that TAU’s presence in Oko has brought significant visibility and development to the host community, the Kwara South Senatorial District, and Kwara State at large. She thanked God for the team’s safe journey and appreciated the Commission for its continued support to the Nigerian university system.

Professor Oladipo recalled that in October 2025, the NUC approved the addition of 13 new programmes nationwide, noting that although TAU is a young university, established in 2021, it is intentional about growth and expansion. She explained that immediately after the University secured accreditation for some programmes in November 2025, deliberate steps were taken to introduce additional programmes in line with national needs and global best practices.

She further commended the NUC for its efforts in expanding access to more undergraduate and professional programmes, emphasizing that these opportunities would enable more students to gain relevant education and secure their future. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the verification team to be part of TAU’s growth story, encouraging a sustained cordial relationship and inviting them to return in the future to monitor the progress of the programmes.

Highlighting TAU’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, she noted that the University is a self-sustaining institution, with an independently powered campus. She also underscored the University’s global outlook, revealing that TAU operates a Foreign Language Centre, with a goal that its graduates become fluent in at least four United Nations languages, thereby positioning them to compete favourably on the global stage.

In concluding her address, the Vice-Chancellor commended the resilience, dedication, and teamwork of TAU staff members, whose efforts ensured thorough preparation for the resource verification exercise.

Responding on behalf of the NUC team, Professor N.J Saka, the Team Lead, expressed appreciation to the University for its warm hospitality and well-organised reception. He commended the evident unity and cooperation among the University’s staff members, stating that the team was present to objectively verify the availability of human and material resources for the proposed programmes. He assured the University that the team would carry out its assignment diligently and professionally.

Following the opening session, the resource verification exercise commenced. The NUC team embarked on a comprehensive tour of the University’s facilities, inspecting lecture rooms, laboratories, staff offices, the central library, e-library, and other academic and support facilities, while also interacting with academic staff.

At the conclusion of the exercise, an exit meeting was held, during which the NUC team presented their observations. They highlighted areas requiring improvement and also commended the University for the significant infrastructure, systems, and academic structures already in place.

The successful hosting of the resource verification exercise further reinforces Thomas Adewumi University’s commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, and continuous development, as it steadily advances its mission of producing globally competitive graduates.
