Thomas Adewumi University conferred honorary doctorate degrees on two eminent Nigerians whose contributions to national development, professional excellence, and community transformation reflect the core values of the University. The conferment took place during the institution’s 2nd Convocation Ceremony, where excellence, leadership, and service were celebrated at the highest level.
Engr. Oluseyi Afolabi, MNSE, FNSChE: Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa)
In recognition of her exceptional contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector and her groundbreaking leadership in engineering, Engr. Oluseyi Afolabi, MNSE, FNSChE, was awarded the Doctor of Engineering (Honoris Causa).
Engr. Afolabi, the Principal Consultant and Chief Executive Officer of Reservoir and Facilities Solutions Nigeria Limited, has dedicated over three decades to solving some of the petroleum industry’s most demanding engineering challenges. Her influence spans technical innovation, capacity development, and industry leadership.
A member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (FNSChE), and the current Chairman, Board of Trustees, Society of Petroleum Engineers (Nigeria Council), Engr. Afolabi has distinguished herself as a transformational force in Nigeria’s most strategic sector.
Beyond professional achievements, she has mentored countless young engineers, championing excellence, integrity, and national service. She has consistently demonstrated that Nigerian engineers can produce world-class solutions without reliance on foreign expertise, building both competence and confidence in the next generation.
She was robed in her honorary gown by the Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, assisted by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, after which the tassel of her cap was turned to the left and her certificate formally presented.
In her response, Engr. Afolabi expressed heartfelt appreciation to the University and pledged to support the institution, especially the Faculty of Engineering, whenever called upon.
Pastor Oladokun Olatunde: Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa)
Also honoured was Pastor Oladokun Olatunde, Chairman of SEAP Holdings Limited, who received the Doctor of Business Administration (Honoris Causa) for his visionary leadership, entrepreneurship, and commitment to societal transformation.
Under Pastor Olatunde’s exemplary leadership, SEAP Holdings has grown into a conglomerate driving economic empowerment, job creation, and community development across Nigeria. His businesses span multiple sectors, providing opportunities for thousands of Nigerians and contributing significantly to national economic growth.
What truly distinguishes Pastor Olatunde is his deep commitment to humanity, expressed through philanthropy, youth development initiatives, community support programmes, and mentorship of emerging entrepreneurs. His philosophy embodies the belief that success is not measured solely by personal achievements, but by the lives one uplifts.
He was robed by the Chancellor, assisted by the Vice-Chancellor, after which he received his certificate. In his remarks, Pastor Olatunde expressed profound gratitude to the University management, noting that this honour marks his third honorary degree. He also pledged to support the University, starting with contributions toward student financial support.
Conferring the awards, the Chancellor, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, celebrated the honourees for their remarkable achievements and contributions to society. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, in her address, applauded the two awardees, saying, "To both our honorary doctorate recipients: You honour us by accepting these honours. Your lives inspire us. Your achievements challenge us. Your commitments remind us why universities exist, not merely to confer degrees, but to celebrate, encourage, and multiply the kind of excellence, service, and impact you both represent."
