Thomas Adewumi University has once again demonstrated its commitment to technological innovation and student empowerment as Dr. Samuel Farohunbi, the Director of the TAU Career Centre, successfully secured a ₦53 million grant for a six-month international tech mentorship programme.

The grant was awarded by Mentors Without Borders (MWB), Romania, through TAU’s strategic partnership with Financial Services Innovators (FSI), Lagos, under the Tech Without Borders Mentorship Programme.

This prestigious initiative is designed to upskill 50 outstanding TAU students, granting them access to world-class mentorship, digital resources, and professional development opportunities. Each participant will undergo six months of intensive mentorship valued at ₦1 million per student, delivered by experts from globally recognized tech companies such as Google, Microsoft, Apple, and Atlas.

In addition to the training, tech gadgets worth ₦3 million were donated to the university to facilitate the programme. These include five high-end laptops, ten Logitech H390 headsets, and a Starlink internet device with a six-month subscription, aimed at enhancing the students’ learning experience and supporting seamless global connectivity.

Speaking during the formal handover of the donated gadgets, Dr. Farohunbi Samuel welcomed Mr. Olaolu Olowe, the Programme Manager of FSI, to the TAU campus. In his remarks, Dr. Farohunbi emphasized that the mentorship programme aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application. “This partnership provides our students with the opportunity to connect with global mentors, develop real-life solutions, and gain competitive skills for the international job market,” he said.

Mr. Olowe, while addressing the students, provided an overview of FSI’s role in fostering innovation among young people. “FSI has existed for about five years with over 9,000 members, 3,000 of whom are students. Our goal is to give innovators, especially young people, access to technology to build solutions that can transform Africa. Through this partnership, TAU will serve as a pilot institution for the Tech Mentorship Programme,” he noted.

The official letter of collaboration, signed by the Executive Director of FSI, Dr. Aituaz Kola-Oladejo, further outlined that the mentorship will cover areas such as Web Development, Machine Learning, AI Product Management, Digital Marketing, Project Management, and Technical Sales Support. The programme will combine theoretical lessons and hands-on projects, giving students a portfolio of practical work and access to future employment opportunities.

While receiving the gadgets, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, expressed profound appreciation to both FSI and Mentors Without Borders for their commitment to student development. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision at Thomas Adewumi University, to produce graduates who possess at least two international digital skills before graduation. It will further strengthen our resolve to build globally competitive, tech-driven innovators,” she stated.

The ₦53 million Tech Mentorship Programme marks a significant milestone in TAU’s pursuit of excellence in digital education and innovation, reaffirming the university’s standing as one of Nigeria’s leading STEM-focused private institutions.
