In a commendable display of service and social responsibility, the Youth Corps Members currently serving at Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, have made history by organizing the first-ever Youth Empowerment Programme in Oko-Irese Community, equipping over 150 youths with sustainable hands-on skills for improved livelihoods and the community’s growth.
The two-day training held on the 5th and 6th of April 2025 at the 2nd ECWA Church premises in Oko-Irese was facilitated by expert professionals who led intensive training sessions, including soap making, photography, interior decoration, barbing, fascinator crafts, graphic design, and cake and pastry production.
Speaking on the programme’s goals, the Programme Coordinator and Corps Member at TAU, Miss Ololade Oluwadare stated,“We identified a significant gap in the skillsets of the youths in this community, and this programme was our response to bridge that gap, offering hands-on skills necessary to generate sustainable income and pursue entrepreneurial success.”
Reflecting on the programme’s impact, the Media Coordinator and another Corps Member at TAU, Miss Kehinde Akintan, stated, “Watching the confidence of these young minds grow over the past two days as they honed their skills was truly rewarding, and I believe this programme has not only provided them with practical abilities but also reignited their belief in their potential.”
The programme marks a significant step in community engagement and youth development efforts in Oko-Irese, and it further underscores the commitment of Thomas Adewumi University, through the efforts of the serving Corps Members, to foster growth and capacity building within the host community, paving the way for a brighter and more prosperous future for its youth.
