TAU Welcomes New Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks

Thomas Adewumi University had the honor of hosting the newly appointed Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Sobi Barracks, Brigadier General E.B. Barkins, during a courtesy visit to the university community. The visit, which took place recently, was aimed at formally introducing Brigadier General Barkins to the institution and fostering continued collaboration between the military and the university.

Accompanying the new commander was the outgoing commander, Major General O.D. Williams, alongside several captains and officers of the Sobi Barracks, Kwara State. In his remarks, Major General Williams expressed his gratitude to the university for their cooperation during his tenure and stated that his purpose for the visit was to introduce his successor to their operational areas, including the university community. He also used the opportunity to bid farewell and seek continued support for Brigadier General Barkins, encouraging the institution to extend the same level of cooperation to the new commander.

In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, congratulated Major General Williams on his successful tenure and appreciated his remarkable contributions to security in Kwara State. She acknowledged the significant role played by the military in ensuring the safety of the university and the Oko community.

Professor Oladipo further emphasized the university’s commitment to security, recognizing that a safe environment is crucial for the growth and development of students and staff. She warmly welcomed Brigadier General Barkins to Kwara State and the Oko community, expressing her appreciation in advance for his anticipated support in maintaining a secure environment.

Following the introductory meeting, the delegation embarked on a tour of the university campus, providing the new commander with an opportunity to familiarize himself with the institution and its environment.

TAU remains committed to fostering strong partnerships with security agencies to ensure the continuous safety and well-being of its students, staff, and the broader Oko community.
