In a significant stride toward its commitment to fostering innovation and contributing to the global effort to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) or Global Goals (United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) policy guideline, 2016- 2030 to end poverty, protect the environment, and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity now and, in the future). DRIPDEV holds the Thomas Adewumi University Research Hub (TAURH) (A Special Monthly Research Capacity Building Lecture Series for all TAU Academic Staff) October 2023 Edition titled "Implementation of SDGs in Thomas Adewumi University Teaching and Research Activities." The event was nothing short of a resounding success, with academic staff coming together to explore the pivotal role of SDGs in TAU's academic landscape.

The event commenced with an inspiring opening remark by Dr. Adekemi T. Dahunsi, Director, DRIPDEV, who set the stage for an enlightening exploration of the significance of SDGs in the context of Thomas Adewumi University. She welcomed and appreciated everyone present at the event, referring to the September Edition of the TAURH lecture series, she said: “Universities is a hub for knowledge sharing through research, teaching, and for this, TAU plays a critical role in supporting the 2030 agenda of the SDGs”. Dr. Dahunsi underscored the importance of these global goals and their relevance to the university, setting the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.

The highlight of the event was the guest lecturer, Dr. Adekunle T. Bamigbade, who delivered a compelling speech on “Implementation of SDGs In TAU Teaching and Research activities”. He addressed the question of why SDGs matter to TAU and elaborated on why TAU needs SDGs, exploring the multiple ways in which TAU can contribute and remain relevant to the SDGs initiative in Teaching, Research, Operation and governance, and Leadership. Dr. Bamigbade's presentation also delved into the practical aspects of how the academic community can implement SDGs within the research environment. He passionately discussed strategies to promote research on campus. He candidly addressed the challenges faced in implementing SDGs and offered viable solutions for overcoming these hurdles. His comprehensive insights provided attendees with a roadmap for aligning TAU's activities with the SDGs and creating a brighter, more sustainable future.

The event concluded on a high note with an interactive session that provided attendees with an opportunity to pose questions, share observations, and engage in a dynamic discussion about the program’s theme. This session allowed participants to gain a deeper understanding of the practical aspects of implementing SDGs at TAU. Dr. James Ishola, Dean of the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, delivered the closing remarks, expressing his enthusiasm for the institution's commitment to the SDGs and his optimism for the positive impact TAU can make in achieving these global goals. He also inspired attendees to carry forward the mission of integrating SDGs into all aspects of their teaching and research.

The October Edition of the TAU Research Hub proved to be a remarkable success, further reinforcing Thomas Adewumi University's dedication to making a positive impact on the world through education, research, and sustainable development. The commitment to the implementation of SDGs in teaching and research activities stands as a testament to TAU's dedication to global sustainability and its pivotal role in shaping a better world. As TAU continues to run with the agenda of the SDGs 2030, this event serves as a powerful reminder of the university's commitment to knowledge, innovation, and sustainable development. The future is bright for TAU, and the world is sure to benefit from its contributions to the global SDGs initiative.
