In a significant step towards academic and professional advancement, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) has officially launched its Top-Up and HND Conversion Programme under the Centre for Professional Development. The strategic opening meeting, held on March 21, 2025, marked the formal commencement of the programme, aimed at bridging the educational gap for Higher National Diploma (HND) holders seeking to earn a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree.
Delivering the opening remarks, the acting Director of the Centre for Professional Development, Dr. James Ishola, described the programme as a transformative initiative that will help professionals bridge the academic gap and enhance their career prospects. "Today marks a significant moment in TAU, as we officially commence a programme that offers an invaluable opportunity for individuals in society to earn a B.Sc. certificate," he stated. He further encouraged the pioneer students to approach their studies with diligence, emphasizing that as the first cohort, they have a unique privilege of setting a high standard for subsequent cohorts.
Following his address, the six pioneer students introduced themselves, marking the beginning of their academic journey at TAU.
In her keynote address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, described the day as a historic milestone for the university. "Today is a remarkable moment in TAU’s journey, much like Easter Sunday—a day of resurrection and new beginnings for our institution," she remarked.
Prof. Oladipo acknowledged the efforts of the committee members and faculty in making the programme a reality, assuring the students of a rigorous yet structured curriculum spanning six semesters (two years). She emphasized TAU’s commitment to academic excellence, adding that the university is expanding its programmes, increasing student enrollment, and investing in infrastructural development.
To the faculty members, she emphasized the critical role of effective training in ensuring the students' academic success, while urging them to remain committed to delivering top-tier education.
The event concluded with closing remarks from the Head of the Department of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Mr. Omosola Olabode, who extended appreciation to all committee members and faculty for their contributions to the programme’s success.
With the presence of faculty members, committee representatives, university officials, heads of departments, and the pioneer students, the launch of the Top-Up and HND Conversion Programme reinforces TAU’s dedication to lifelong learning and professional development, providing a pathway for individuals to advance their careers, broaden their expertise, and make meaningful contributions to society.
