TAU took a significant step towards the successful hosting of its first-ever Convocation ceremony, slated for November 26, 2024, with the formal inauguration of various Sub-Committees. The event, held yesterday, brought together the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Principal Officers, Deans of Faculties, and other committee members for a pivotal moment in the Institution's history.

The inauguration ceremony was presided over by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francisca Oladipo, who highlighted the significance of the gathering. In her address, Professor Oladipo emphasized that the primary objective of the ceremony was to officially inaugurate the Sub-Committees that have been tasked with various aspects of the convocation’s success. She underscored the importance of the event, stating, "Today marks a key milestone in our journey towards a grand celebration. We are entrusting these committees with the responsibility of ensuring that our maiden convocation is not only successful but memorable."

Seven Sub-Committees were inaugurated, each with specific responsibilities:

  1. Committee for Honors, Awards, and Investiture
  2. Committee for Security
  3. Committee for Refreshments and Chancellor’s Night
  4. Committee for Budget and Finance
  5. Committee for Contact, Publicity, and Communication
  6. Committee for Programme and Lecture
  7. Committee for Logistics, Protocols, and Ceremonial Arrangements

During the event, the Vice-Chancellor called upon the members of each committee and formally inaugurated them, reading out their respective terms of reference. These committees will be instrumental in coordinating the various aspects of the convocation ceremony to ensure seamless execution.

In response to the inauguration, Professor Emenike Irokanulo, Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, speaking on behalf of the committee chairpersons, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve. He pledged that the committees would work diligently to deliver an exceptional convocation. "We appreciate the trust placed in us, and we are committed to ensuring the success of the convocation ceremony. We believe that, with collective effort, we will achieve great results."

The ceremony concluded with further comments from committee members and a group photograph to mark the occasion.

With the inauguration of these Sub-Committees, Thomas Adewumi University is well on its way to making history with its maiden convocation ceremony in November.
