The apex of the week unfolded during a captivating Lecture event on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023, where the University's Principal Officers set the stage for an enlightening session. Prof. Francisca Oladipo, the dynamic Vice-Chancellor, set the tone with an amazing opening speech, underscoring the paramount role of entrepreneurship in today's dynamic world and the pivotal role Universities play in shaping future leaders. Dr. Adekemi Dahunsi, the Director of Research, Innovations, and Product Development, delved into the roots of Global Entrepreneurship Week, weaving a historical backdrop that lent significance to the event.
The Global Entrepreneurship Week, the world's largest annual celebration of entrepreneurship, unfolded its wings in the second week of November, empowering and celebrating entrepreneurs across the globe. Dr. Adekemi's insightful introduction paved the way for a series of engaging discussions and activities.
The distinguished Guest Speaker of the day, Mr. Joseph Augustine, a luminary in digital skills and President of Verve Megaminds Network/Rotary Peace Ambassador, Finland, took the stage to share his insights on "Building a Strong Digital Presence." Drawing from his own experiences, Mr. Augustine captivated the audience with practical advice and success stories, encouraging students to embrace the digital landscape for entrepreneurial ventures. He also defined some grounds for the students starting from them using their internal feasibility and making good use of the opportunities within their environment. Participants gained valuable insights in selecting the right technology for a competitive edge in today's market and guiding them in designing early-stage businesses and establishing their online footprint, from idea validation to incorporating essential and trending key digital strategies.
A memorable segment of the event featured two extraordinary students who personified the entrepreneurial spirit thriving within Thomas Adewumi University. Edeh Ozioma Miracle, a 100-level Nursing Science student, who embarked on her catering journey at the age of 10, shared her success in Chin- Chin production, turning unconventional ingredients like Semo, Yam, and Garri into delectable creations. Her innovative approach not only impressed the audience but also highlighted the University's dedication to nurturing creativity.
Wehinmi Omoke, a 100-level Law student, showcased her prowess in online marketing, specializing in the vibrant world of Unisex wear and accessories. Her entrepreneurial journey initiated right after secondary school, this student's entrepreneurial spirit demonstrated the diverse range of skills and interests thriving within the Thomas Adewumi University community.
The event concluded with a renewed sense of inspiration and determination among the students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
