The three-day staff retreat at Thomas Adewumi University concluded with in-depth discussions centered on enhancing teaching techniques, optimizing educational resources, and promoting emotional intelligence to improve the overall academic experience at the institution.

In his presentation on “A New Approach to Teaching Using Taxonomy”, the Dean of Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences, Professor Irokanulo Emenike discussed how applying educational frameworks like Bloom's taxonomy can better align learning objectives with students' abilities, particularly through the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). “Understanding each student’s ZPD allows us to scaffold their learning effectively resulting in a productive learning environment that maximizes their potential ,” he said.

Following this, the Director of Research, Innovation, and Product Development (DRIPDEV), Dr. Adekemi Dahunsi, addressed the challenges with teaching resources and the importance of lecture preparation at TAU. "Adequate resources are essential for delivering quality education, and the timely preparation of lecture notes is just as important for guiding students through their learning process," Dr. Dahunsi remarked.

"Timely preparation of lecture notes is essential. Continuous assessment, when properly implemented, reinforces learning and provides critical feedback on student progress," she added

In the same vein, the Director of the Quality Assurance unit, Professor Adeniyi Adetunji anchored an enlightening session on Human Management and Emotional Intelligence, underscoring the importance of empathy and emotional control in effective teaching. "Emotional intelligence is key to understanding and managing both your own emotions and those of your students. You cannot rush the learning process—take time to engage with students at their own pace," he advised.

Bringing the retreat to a close, the Registrar, Mr. Kolawole Fisoye, expressed immense gratitude to the facilitators and participants for their commitment to improving academic standards at the University. The retreat concluded with a group photograph, marking the end of the three days successful and insightful retreat.
