In a momentous occasion, one that marks the start of an exciting chapter in Thomas Adewumi University, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Francisca O. Oladipo, delivered a heartwarming and motivating speech titled "Welcome to the Best Time of Your Life!" during the Team Diamond Freshers Orientation Programme held at the TAU East campus yesterday.

The event, which marked the official welcome of the new students into the TAU family, was attended by eager and enthusiastic freshmen, Principal Officers of the University, and some faculty members. Professor Francisca began her speech by extending a warm welcome to the new students, emphasizing that their journey at TAU marks the beginning of the best time of their lives. "As you step onto our campus, you become a member of a family-a university that has been at the forefront of innovation, research, and scholarship since its establishment. Our commitment to academic excellence is unwavering, and we hold dear the values of integrity, inclusivity, and the relentless pursuit of truth. These values are the bedrock upon which this institution was founded, and they will guide your journey throughout your time here," she said.

During her speech, the Vice-Chancellor also appreciated parents and guardians for trusting TAU with their wards, it is a privilege and the University is not taking it for granted. She further pledged to ensure that TAU will prepare the students for a lifetime of excellence, highlighting some remarkable achievements and accomplishments of TAU in just a little over 2 years (actually in 2 years plus 4 months). She proudly explained about TAU recognition and acclaim on both national and international levels:

• Academic Excellence: TAU is named the Nigeria's Leading Light in Science, Technology, Engineering, Medical, and innovations (STEM-i) Education, and the University is building on a proud legacy of 27 years of developing great minds from the Thomas Adewumi International College (Established in 1996), affordable quality education and poised to attract the best and the brightest from all over Nigeria and beyond. Thomas Adewumi University is at the cutting edge of providing world-class education through teaching and research, and positively impacting society thereby playing an important role in economic recovery and ensuring that the society is more resilient in the future.
• Unbroken Academic Progression: TAU has an unbroken academic progression such that in just a little over 2 years, the first set of students are in their 400 Level and by this time next year, they will have graduated after spending just a little above 3 years. The university is also ranked the best among the universities established in 2021, 11th out of all the 148 private universities in Nigeria. Nationally, 61st in Nigeria and 4th out of the 9 universities in Kwara State according to the Special 20th Anniversary Edition of the January 2023 Webometrics Ranking of World Universities.
• Cutting-Edge Facilities: The university has invested significantly in state-of-the-art facilities, including well-equipped laboratories,ultramodern e-resource centers, a modern library, and world-class sports and recreational facilities to ensure students have access to a holistic learning environment.

As Professor Francisca concluded her speech, she reiterated the importance of unity, diversity, and collaboration within the TAU family. She encouraged the freshmen to embrace diversity, learn from one another, and engage actively in campus life. "Remember that the world is waiting for the contributions only you can make. Your unique perspectives, talents, and ideas are needed now more than ever. You are the future leaders, innovators, and changemakers of this world, and we have every confidence that you will rise to the occasion." she remarked.

In closing, the Vice-Chancellor welcomed the new students to the TAU campus, urging them to make the most of their time at the university. She left them with these inspiring words: "Embrace this moment. Embrace this journey. Embrace the limitless possibilities that await you. And as you do, remember the words of the great Nelson Mandela: "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”. Congratulations again on your acceptance to our beautiful family, and may your time here be nothing short of extraordinary.” She concluded.
