In a bid to prioritize the mental well-being of its students and staff, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU) recently hosted a seminar lecture on "Mental Health & Well-Being: Navigating the Balance Between Academic Life and Personal Life." The event organized by the Directorate of Student Care Services, gathered the University Vice-Chancellor, Principal Officers, Management team, staff, and students, fostering a platform for discussion and enlightenment.

The seminar commenced with a warm welcome address by Mr. Ameh Musa, the Dean of Student Care Services, who expressed gratitude to all attendees, including the esteemed guest speakers. He emphasized the significance of mental health in both personal and academic spheres, underscoring the university's commitment and initiative in hosting such an essential lecture to support its community's holistic well-being. Mr. Ameh underscored the importance of the topic, especially in the current times, and urged participants to actively engage with the speakers and glean insights to navigate the delicate balance between academic pursuits and personal wellness.

Following the welcome address, Mr. Olajide Omojarabi, the event's moderator, introduced the University's Principal Officers, Directors, Deans, and Heads of Departments, setting the stage for the subsequent discourse. In the Vice-Chancellor’s opening remarks, Prof. Francisca Oladipo echoed the sentiments of appreciation and welcomed the audience, acknowledging the pivotal role of the Student Care Services in organizing such a crucial event. She extended a warm welcome to the guest speakers, Dr. Jumoke Oladele from the University of Ilorin and Mrs. Victoria Aina, TAU's in-house speaker. Emphasizing the timeliness of the lecture amidst the prevailing challenges within the country, she underscored the importance of seeking help and support, underscoring the need for mental health awareness and advocacy.

Dr. Jumoke I. Oladele, a distinguished scholar in Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation, took the stage as the first guest speaker with a presentation on "A Comprehensive Approach to Ensuring Mental Health & Well-Being." Drawing from her wealth of experience, she provided insights into understanding mental health, shared key facts, and offered strategies for maintaining mental well-being in academic and personal life.

The seminar continued with a refreshing interlude of student performances, showcasing the diverse talents within the TAU community. Following this, Mrs. Victoria O. Aina, TAU's in-house speaker discussed the importance of navigating personal life and well-being. Addressing challenges faced in balancing academic and personal responsibilities, she emphasized the significance of a balanced diet and healthy living habits. Mrs Aina’s presentation resonated with the students, fostering a sense of solidarity and empowerment in addressing mental health challenges.

The engaging presentations were followed by a segment of questions and answers, allowing attendees to pose questions to the speakers and delve deeper into the topics discussed. The Vice-Chancellor then expressed appreciation to the speakers for their insightful contributions, presenting them with tokens of gratitude on behalf of the University community.

This event catalyzed fostering a culture of mental health awareness and support within the TAU community, empowering individuals to prioritize their well-being amidst academic pursuits. As the event drew to a close, Mr. Solomon Ileladewa, the Ag. Registrar, delivered the closing remarks, reiterating the importance of prioritizing mental health and well-being within the university community. He emphasized the need for ongoing support and encouraged all attendees to utilize available resources for assistance when needed.

Overall, the seminar proved to be an enlightening and enriching experience, underscoring TAU's commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also the holistic well-being of its students and staff, paving the way for a healthier and more resilient academic community.
