Biodata of Speaker:

He holds the following qualification: LLB, BL, LLM. He is a Notary Public, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria SAN, and the Founding Partner of the Law Firm, Yusuf O. Ali & Co, Ghalib Chambers, with offices at ILORIN, Lagos and Abuja with Ilorin as the head office.

Yusuf Ali SAN is a member of many professional bodies such as: The Nigerian Bar Association, International Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Commonwealth Lawyers Association; among others.

He has won and been conferred with many fellowships such as: Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, (FCIArb) (UK), Fellow Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) (Nigeria), Member Chartered Institute of Taxation Nigeria (CITN), Fellow Society for Peace Studies and Practice (FSPSP), Fellow Dispute Resolution Institute (F. DRI), Honourary Fellow, Nigerian Minning And Geosciences Society. Visiting Research, Fellow at Kings College, London.

Yusuf Ali SAN also served and is still serving on the Boards, Councils and Committees of many Institutions. He was the Chairman Kwara State Law Reform Committee. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Al-Hikmah University Ilorin. He was the pioneer Chairman, Council of Public Defenders Kwara State. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Summit University OFFA, Kwara State. He is the Former Pro - Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, OSUN State University. He is also the Former Chairman of the Committee of Pro Chancellors of State Owned Universities in Nigeria (COPSUN).

Professor Yusuf Ali SAN is a Patron and Legal Adviser to many professional and socio cultural groups all over Nigeria. He is also the Founder and Sole Financier of Yusuf Olaolu Ali Foundation.

He is the Author of the books:

  1. Anatomy of Corruption In Nigeria: Issues, Challenges And Solutions.
  2. Public Private Partnership in Nigeria: An essential guide for stakeholders.
  3. The Supreme Court and Jurisprudence of the right to a fair Hearing in Nigeria.

Synopsis of Lecture:

This lecture seeks to briefly define what decolonisation means and delves into the multifaceted aspects of decolonizing African education, with the aim to empower the next generation to own its future and produce indigenous educational products. It highlights the objectives of the research, which includes exploring historical challenges in the current African education system, the role of language, reclaiming indigenous knowledge, building inclusive curricula, and empowering teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge to build an indigenous society that works for all. This work also examines theoretical frameworks for decolonization, identifying challenges in the process, discussing strategies for decolonization, and empowering various stakeholders such as teachers, students, and researchers. Additionally, because of the importance of stakeholders to the decolonisation process, there is emphasizes on the importance of creating inclusive and safe educational spaces, promoting student agency and voice, addressing gender disparities, and advocating for policy changes. The work concludes with a call to action for decolonizing African education and offers recommendations for future actions.
