Professor E. O. Odebunmi obtained the B.Sc. Honours Degree (Second Class Upper Division) in Chemistry from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in June 1975, and both the M. Sc. (1979) and Ph.D. (1982) degrees in Chemistry from Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey, USA.

He is a Nigerian national, married to Dr (Mrs.) Julianah B. Odebunmi and they have four children, all mature adults.

RESEARCH INTERESTS: The research interests include:

  • Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Catalysis involving kinetics and mechanism of catalytic processes in gas-liquid and gas-solid reaction systems;
  • Synthesis, characterization and the structure-activity relationship in catalysis;
  • Development of catalytic systems for hydrocarbon conversions of Nigerian Coals, Crude oils, Bitumen, Petroleum products, Synthetic and Natural Dyes and other industrial raw materials.
  • Synthesis, characterization and catalytic activity studies of novel transition metal complexes for CO2 activation and HTR reactions.
  • Environmental Pollution and Remediation Studies using adsorption techniques.

Professor E. O. Odebunmi is a Fellow of the Chemical Society of Nigeria (FCSN) and the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (FICCON) and a member of the Science Association of Nigeria M(SAN). He delivered the 138th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ilorin in November 2013 on the topic “Catalysis and Chemical Industry: A Fruitful Wedlock”

He has been engaged in teaching and research in several Universities in Nigeria including University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, Oyo State, Usmanu Dan Fodiyo University, Sokoto, Sokoto State, BOWEN University, Iwo, Osun State and KolaDaisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State, as well as University of Zimbabwe, Harare, Zimbabwe. He has served as External Examiner at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels to many Universities within and outside Nigeria and as Assessors for Associate Professorship and full Professorship positions.
