In a defining stride toward academic advancement, Thomas Adewumi University has officially inaugurated the Board of the School of Postgraduate Studies. The event, held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the University Senate Chamber, marked a strategic step in the institution’s preparation to welcome its first cohort of postgraduate students in September 2025.
The postgraduate programmes, approved for commencement across two faculties, include:
* Faculty of Management and Social Sciences: Accounting, Business Administration, Mass Communication, Criminology and Security Studies, and Economics
* Faculty of Computing and Applied Sciences: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Biochemistry, and Microbiology
Speaking during the inauguration, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, expressed deep appreciation to the academic team for their efforts in driving the postgraduate vision forward. “We’ve made remarkable progress, and by God’s grace, we will all reap the fruits of our labor,” she said. “The board is the engine room of this initiative. Let us take ownership and see this as our contribution to the growth of our departments, faculties, and the university as a whole.”
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the long-term impact of well-managed postgraduate training, encouraging members to mentor and supervise students with the commitment and quality they would have desired for themselves. “Your postgraduate students will eventually become your allies, if they are well-trained. Teach and supervise them the way you wish you were supervised,” she added. “This is our collective project, and we will provide all the support necessary.”
Prof. Francisca Oladipo also confirmed the university’s goal to kick off admissions for the Post Graduate Studies and MBA Programmes by September 2025, with the first set of students scheduled to complete their programme by August 31, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the board, the newly appointed Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Head of the Department of Sociology, Dr. Dele Rasak, expressed gratitude to the university leadership for the confidence bestowed on the committee. “We are honored by this responsibility and we pledge to work diligently,” he said. “Our goal is not just to begin, but to build a robust postgraduate system that runs efficiently and attracts quality students.”
