In alignment with its commitment to experiential learning and academic excellence, the 300-level students of the Faculty of Law, Thomas Adewumi University, embarked on a two-day educational tour to Ilorin, Kwara State, from April 28th to 29th, 2025, aimed at bridging classroom learning with real-world legal practice, offering students valuable exposure to courtroom dynamics, professional mentorship, and legal institutions.

The initiative spearheaded by the Dean of the Faculty, Professor Olugbenga Oke-Samuel, began with a visit to the Kwara State High Court, where the students observed live courtroom proceedings, including two civil trials that showcased the intricacies of legal advocacy and attentively followed key procedural elements including the tendering of documents, the presentation and withdrawal of motions, and objections raised during counsel addresses.

Following the proceedings, the students were received by the Chief Judge of Kwara State, Hon. Justice A.A. Adebara, in his chambers. His Lordship praised the university’s efforts in creating such opportunities for legal exposure and expressed admiration for the institutions unprecedented growth. He said that what Thomas Adewumi University was doing was commendable, emphasizing that legal education must go beyond textbooks. He encouraged the students to remain focused and committed, noting that the profession needed lawyers with both knowledge and character.

Continuing the itinerary, the delegation proceeded to the law office of R.O. Balogun SAN, where they were warmly welcomed by the Senior Advocate and his legal team. The visit featured a guided tour of the firm’s premises, followed by an interactive session that addressed career development, legal drafting, and the realities of private practice.

The next day, the delegation visited the chambers of J.O. Olatoke SAN. Held in the firm’s library and conference room, the session opened with introductions by the Sub-Dean (Miss. Okedele Hope) and transitioned into a robust dialogue with the Learned Silk, who provided guidance on navigating legal challenges and maintaining professional integrity.

Beyond legal engagements, the students also visited cultural and recreational landmarks, including the historic Emir’s Palace, where they explored its architectural beauty and cultural artifacts, and The Palms Mall for leisure and reflection.

As Thomas Adewumi University continues to distinguish itself as a rising force in Nigerian legal education, experiences like this highlight its dedication to raising bold, competent legal professionals through world-class experience, exposure and ethical mentorship.
