The Founder of Thomas Adewumi University, Engr. Dr. Johnson Adewumi, has urged newly admitted students to prioritize discipline, character development, and effective time management as keys to achieving success. Addressing the 100-level students (Team Emerald) on February 4th and 5th, 2025, across the university’s two campuses, Dr. Adewumi delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “The Secret of Success,” laying the foundation for their academic and personal growth.

In his presentation, Dr. Adewumi recounted the university's journey from its initial conception to its current status. “The vision of Thomas Adewumi University was conceived in 2009,” he explained. “After laying the foundation in May 2015, we received federal approval in February 2021. With our first matriculation in August 2021, we now proudly welcome over 800 students for the 2024/2025 academic session,” he added, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to excellence in learning and character development.

To maximize productivity and seamless academic experience, Dr. Adewumi stressed the importance of adhering to the university’s rules and regulations, attending lectures promptly, and staying away from cultism, bullying, and other negative behaviors. “Success doesn’t happen by accident. It is the result of deliberate effort and discipline.” he noted.

Focusing on the central theme of the lecture, Dr. Adewumi’s emphasized on the role of time management in achieving academic success. “Time management is the foundation of success,” he declared, adding that prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance can significantly impact students’ achievements.

Warned against the potential distractions of social media, Dr. Adewumi urged the students to manage their time wisely. “Social media is destroying many young lives. Limit your use to no more than one hour daily. Your success depends on how you manage your 24 hours.” He further encouraged the students to structure their days carefully, dedicating twice the duration of their lecture time to personal study, and to utilize spaces such as the library and empty classrooms for focused academic work.

Looking beyond academic success, Dr. Adewumi highlighted the importance of acquiring skills that are relevant to the modern workplace. He drew attention to the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) and advised students to obtain at least two international certifications and develop proficiency in computer applications before graduation to stay competitive in an increasingly AI-driven world.

As the lecture concluded, Dr. Adewumi left the students with a powerful challenge: “What outcome do you want when you graduate in four years?” he asked. “Your journey to success begins now. Make every moment count.” With these words, he encouraged Team Emerald to embark on their academic journey with purpose, laying the groundwork for what promises to be a transformative experience at Thomas Adewumi University.
