Day two of Thomas Adewumi University's staff retreat brought a renewed focus on academic excellence, as faculty and administrators converged to tackle the critical task of curriculum development and administrative excellence, reflecting the institution's commitment to shaping a future-ready educational framework that meets global standards.
The day's agenda kicked off with an intensive Curriculum Workshop facilitated by the Director of Quality Assurance, Professor Adeniyi Adetunji, where the intricacies of designing, reviewing, and implementing curricula were examined. “Curriculum evaluation is not just about the review process; it involves a comprehensive approach, including intra-curricular evaluation, teacher and student assessments, materials verification, and the continuous improvement of the system to align with the learning outcomes and field demands”, he emphasized.
Simultaneously, the comprehensive Registry session, anchored by the University Registrar, Mr. Fisoye Kolawole, provided in-depth details into the critical importance of documentation processes and faculty administration. “The backbone of any successful academic institution is its ability to maintain impeccable records and streamline faculty operations. Without administrative efficiency, even the best-designed curricula can falter”, he stated.
Following this, the Medical Director of the University's Health Centre, Dr. Olufemi Oguntoye, addressed the importance of work-life balance in academia. He warned of the far-reaching effects of poor work-life balance. “To thrive in academia, it's essential to recognize burnout signs and prioritize self-care. Scheduling regular exercise, maintaining healthy eating habits, and ensuring adequate sleep are key to achieving a balanced work-life dynamic”
The day concluded with a session on examination procedures, led by the Chairman of Examination Committee, Dr. Rotimi Folaranmi. He outlined essential strategies for maintaining examination standards, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation and adherence to specific procedures.
