Dr. Ayeni Discusses Psychoactive Substances, HIV at TAU Maiden Faculty Lecture

Thomas Adewumi University’s auditorium was filled to the brim on Thursday, 27th of October, 2022, as the acting Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences Dr. Ayeni, discussed the scourge of psychoactive substances as it affects contracting HIV among young adults.
The event was graced by Mrs. Olufunke Eseyin, member of the Board of Trustees.

While giving the opening remarks, the Vice-chancellor and Chief host of the University’s maiden Faculty lecture, Prof. Francisca Oladipo, stressed that research seminars, lectures, and workshops are strong culture in the University. She commended the Faculty of Basic Medical and Health Sciences for pioneering the first University faculty lecture.

Dr. Ayeni stated that the effects of psychoactive Substances in connection with HIV “is highly detrimental to the health of young adults in Nigeria and the global community”. He made the statement while delivering the Faculty lecture hosted by the Coordinator of Human Capacity Development, Mr. Farohunbi.

The Health practitioner recommended that “reduction in the transmission of HIV can be achieved by making serious efforts in curtailing increase in the consumption of psychoactive substances that are more prevalent among young adult in the country.

Dr. Ayeni was a facilitator at the National Open University of Nigeria, a Lecturer at both public and private Universities, and served as a member of the accreditation team to various Universities in Nigeria. He has also served as chairman of the Research and Ethical Committee in various citadels of learning.

Dr. Ayeni is a member of the University Graduate Nurses Association of Nigeria, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, a Member of Nursing Council, Ekiti State Chapter, the National Association of Perioperative Nurses, the National Association of Clinical Psychologists and National Association of Psychologist.
